Screenshot Organizer: ShotBox alternative, and how it differs from Gatheon's Shotbox

Search the App Store for an iPhone screenshot sorter and you will find an app called Screenshot Organizer: ShotBox (截图整理管家 ShotBox in China). It shares a name with Gatheon's Shotbox but is a different company and a different platform.

Short answer

First, a clarification: Screenshot Organizer: ShotBox (developer MEHMET CANKER) is a standalone iPhone app; Gatheon's Shotbox is a macOS menu-bar screenshot tool, and the two are unrelated. On features it is on-device OCR plus smart sorting: text search, smart collections, one-tap calendar and reminders, a weekly review, with a Premium subscription for more. ScreenNote also uses on-device OCR but focuses on keeping contents (payment logging, to-do reminders), has a Mac version and free core features. Third-party facts checked 2026-10-16.

Limits of ScreenNote

Three things to test yourself before you commit

Moving over from Screenshot Organizer: ShotBox (iPhone), or using both

Both apps read screenshots from the system photo library and leave the originals alone, so switching loses no images. Install ScreenNote and grant photo access and existing screenshots are recognized and picked up again. Smart collections and reminders in Screenshot Organizer: ShotBox are its own data and its page does not describe an export (not verified), so finish any reminders you want to keep in that app first. The two can coexist.

FAQ

Is Screenshot Organizer: ShotBox the same as the Gatheon Shotbox?

No. The first is an iPhone app by developer MEHMET CANKER; the second is a free macOS menu-bar screenshot tool made by Gatheon and downloaded from its website. The shared name is a coincidence.

Which one runs on a Mac?

Gatheon's Shotbox and ScreenNote have Mac versions. The page of Screenshot Organizer: ShotBox lists iPhone only.

Does it cost money?

It is free to download; Premium is an auto-renewing subscription and the page does not state the price (not verified). The ScreenNote app is free and its core features cost nothing.

Does data leave the phone?
